If you’ve been searching for over 40 weight loss stories that are actually relatable, you’re not alone. So many smart, capable women come to us at Trinity Transformation after trying everything from low-carb diets, juice cleanses, calorie counting to weight loss jabs and still feeling stuck.

They’re not lazy or unmotivated. In fact, most of them have spent decades putting everyone else first while silently watching their confidence, energy, and waistlines disappear.

If this sounds familiar, keep reading. This is how real women, over 40, who turned things around for good. And how you can do the same.

Real Weight Loss Stories and How They Did It

The truth is, weight loss in your 40s, 50s and 60s isn’t just about eating less and moving more. Hormonal changes, declining muscle mass, poor sleep, and stress all make fat loss harder and the methods that worked in your 20s no longer deliver results.

That’s where Trinity comes in.

We don’t do diets or one-size-fits-all plans. We work with your body, not against it. And the stories below are proof that when you use the right strategies for your stage of life, you can look and feel better than you have in years.

How Hilary Lost 3 Stone 8lbs After Menopause Burnout

By the end of 2022, Hilary had hit rock bottom. She was heavier than she’d ever been and down to just a handful of clothes that fit. She was burnt out from long NHS shifts, sleeping poorly, and running on sugar and stress.

“I was working ridiculously long hours, eating poorly, and sleeping badly. Menopausal symptoms caused brain fog making me worry I was starting to follow my father’s journey towards dementia, and I constantly felt grumpy, snappy and tearful. I had a very limited range of clothes that fitted (and wasn’t prepared to buy larger sizes), and generally felt miserable.”

None of her old weight loss methods were working anymore. But with a once-in-a-lifetime trip looming, something had to change.

Here’s how Hilary turned it all around with Trinity:

1. She Started Lifting Weights (And Actually Enjoyed It)

Despite never enjoying exercise, Hilary now trains regularly, even while on holiday. Strength training was a complete game-changer for her body composition and mental wellbeing.

“For the first time ever I am enjoying exercise, to the extent that although currently on my extended holiday I have continued to exercise while away. I may not be using weights as heavy as others report but they have increased over the months and continue to do so.”

Why it works:
Strength training builds muscle, which boosts metabolism and helps your body burn more calories at rest. It also improves mood, reduces menopausal symptoms, and supports long-term fat loss.

2. She Stopped Working 24/7

Coaching helped her create boundaries and reclaim time for herself. Just leaving work at 6pm a couple of days a week gave her space to move, breathe, and reset.

“I am no longer working the hours I used to as frequently as I was. This started small – using the Tuesday coaching session as the reason to leave just before 6pm, so I could listen while driving home and then do a workout. I now try and leave at 6pm two or three times a week and to be more disciplined about long and often I work late. I’ve acknowledged that I could work 24/7 and still not get everything done so there is not point trying to the detriment of my health.”

Why it works:
Chronic stress raises cortisol, a hormone that makes it harder to lose fat—especially around the belly. Creating work-life boundaries allowed Hilary’s body to shift out of stress mode and start responding to training and recovery.

3. She Walked Every Day

Instead of aiming for perfection, Hilary focused on consistency. 6,000 steps a day, often through walking meditation, helped her manage stress, clear her head, and feel better in her body.

“I now diarise time each day to get away from my desk and out in the fresh air for a short walk and, although a daily target of 6,000 steps isn’t huge, it is achievable.”

Why it works:
Daily walking lowers stress, improves insulin sensitivity, and supports fat loss without exhausting the body. It’s a gentle, sustainable way to stay active and consistent.

4. She Changed Her Relationship With Food

Navigating coeliac disease and a vegetarian diet wasn’t easy, but Trinity coaches guided her to create balanced, nourishing meals that supported her goals without feeling restrictive.

Today, Hilary is over 50 pounds lighter, stronger, healthier, and happier.

“Issues with food choices were compounded by a diagnosis of coeliac disease and having been a vegetarian for all of my adult life. Difficulties finding vegetarian gluten free options led to a mindset of eating whenever something was available in case nothing was at the next meal. I am now slimmer, but more importantly feel fitter, healthier and happier. Trinity’s programme has helped me achieve weight loss goals but so much more.”

Why it works:
Eating balanced meals that fit her dietary needs helped Hilary control cravings, regulate blood sugar, and avoid overeating. With the right structure, food became fuel and not a source of guilt or stress.

Rav Lost 3 Stone at 47 and Transformed Her Mindset

When Rav first joined Trinity in March 2020, she was exhausted, low in confidence, and stuck in a cycle of afternoon slumps and poor eating habits. But lockdown gave her the chance to focus, and she took it.

With the support of our coaching and fitness systems, Rav was able to lose over 15kg.

1. She Got Her Hormones in Check

After trying antidepressants, Rav’s doctor recommended HRT. The change was immediate. Her energy, motivation, and joy returned. It was like a fog lifted.

“I didn’t realise how much HRT was helping me until I had to come off it for medical reasons. It’s been a real eye-opener. Once I started HRT, my energy and mood completely changed, and I felt like I had a spring in my step again. I started engaging with people more, making an effort to see friends and family, which I hadn’t wanted to do for a long time. The HRT brought back my “get up and go.”

Why it works:
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can rebalance oestrogen and progesterone levels, reducing symptoms like fatigue, low mood, and brain fog. This hormonal support often restores energy, motivation, and emotional stability which can help help women feel like themselves again.

2. She Made Fitness a Daily Habit

From Dave’s Monday morning workouts to strength training five days a week, Rav built consistency and even added Ring Fit to keep things fun.

“Exercise has also become a key part of my routine. I do Dave’s Monday morning workout and the other four workouts during the week. Even though I’ve come off HRT, I’m still pushing myself to keep up with my routine. One of the biggest accomplishments for me has been being able to do full push-ups. I’ve always struggled with them, but now I can do 10 to 15 with good form!”

Why it works:
Regular strength training builds muscle, boosts metabolism, and improves mental clarity. Making it a daily habit keeps momentum going and helps create long-term results without relying on willpower alone.

3. She Found Accountability and Encouragement

During the months when motivation dipped, her coach was there. Our weekly calls helped her stay focused and rebuild momentum.

“Although I had started HRT in December, things didn’t really improve until February. With your constant support, I was able to get back on track. I put on 8 kilos during that time, but eventually, everything clicked. The HRT kicked in, my mindset improved, and your support made all the difference. Since then, I’ve been more focused and driven, losing the weight I had gained and getting closer to my goals.”

Why it works:
Having a coach provides structure, support, and motivation—especially during setbacks. Accountability keeps you consistent, and expert guidance helps you stay focused even when life gets in the way.

4. She Rebuilt Her Confidence

She’s now doing push-ups with perfect form, lifting heavier weights, and tracking everything with ease. The cardigan that used to hide her body? Gone. She finally feels comfortable in her skin again.

“Now I can wear a t-shirt without worrying about covering up. My mindset has shifted, and I no longer waste energy worrying about what others think of me. I focus on myself, and that’s been liberating. Trinity has given me a strong foundation, and I feel like this is just the beginning of a bigger journey.”

Why it works:
Tracking progress and achieving physical goals shifts focus from self-criticism to self-belief. As strength and results grow, so does confidence in both body and mindset.

Suzanne Earl, 44 – Lost 2 Stone 2lbs and Transformed Her Relationship With Food and Alcohol

Suzanne started her journey at 14st 4.5lbs, stuck in a cycle of unhealthy eating and drinking, low self-esteem, and chronic IBS symptoms that impacted her daily life. She drank at least a bottle of wine every night and relied on junk food to cope with stress.

She’d tried countless diets but could never keep weight off. Social situations made her anxious, and confidence was at rock bottom.

With Trinity she was able to lose 2 stone 2 lbs and completely transform her relationship with exercise and food.

1. She Kicked The Wine Habit

Suzanne completely eliminated alcohol in the first phase of her Trinity journey. It was the first time in years she’d gone without. Over time, she reintroduced it only for special occasions and with control. The change was dramatic. She felt less bloated, had more energy, and started sleeping better.

“I drank a bottle of wine a night, minimum, and easily 2 bottles a night on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I tried to abstain so many times and always failed, it was a habit, a really bad habit. I went alcohol-free for the first phase of Trinity and have only introduced alcohol for special events, and even then, I’m controlling the amount I consume and making sensible choices. I really can’t believe this is me.

Why it works:
Cutting out alcohol reduces inflammation, bloating, and sleep disruption—making it easier to lose weight and feel energised. It also breaks the cycle of emotional eating and late-night snacking, which can stall fat loss.

2. She Used Fitness to Cope with Grief

Halfway through her journey, Suzanne lost her best friend. It could have derailed everything. Instead, she leaned on the tools she’d built—tracking her meals, sticking to her workouts, and using exercise as a space to reflect and cope. Even on the day she got the news, she showed up for her LIST session.

“I made sure I continued to complete my LIST workouts, even on the day her mum rang me to tell me of the sad news. This was essential for my mental state. It meant I was giving myself time to focus on me, also quiet time to reflect on what had happened. I have continued to track my food and drink intake during this time.

Why it works:
Exercise releases endorphins and provides a healthy outlet for processing emotions, especially during grief. Staying consistent with movement and nutrition creates a sense of control and stability when everything else feels uncertain.

3. She Built Strength She Never Thought Possible

Lifting weights became something Suzanne genuinely enjoyed. She went from 12kg goblet squats to 25kg. She doubled her Romanian deadlift weight. Her body transformed and her mindset followed.

“I am the strongest I’ve ever been in my life with muscles in places I never knew existed. I started goblet squats at 12kg and now lifting 25kg. Romanian deadlift I started at 8kg and now at 30kg. I love seeing the changes in my body and seeing my muscles starting to show.”

Why it works:
Progressive strength training builds lean muscle, improves body composition, and enhances metabolic rate. Seeing measurable gains in strength also boosts motivation, confidence, and body image.

4. She Reclaimed Her Identity

Suzanne is now the same weight she was on her wedding day, 10 years ago. But for her, the biggest win isn’t the weight. It’s the confidence to walk into any room without feeling like the “fat one.” It’s the calm, focused mindset she built during the hardest chapter of her life.

“All of this has made me feel more confident in myself, I’m now happy to take photos, whereas before I hated them, especially my fat chubby face. I no longer feel embarrassed walking into a room of people. I am no longer the “fat one”. The biggest change for me is my mindset.”

Why it works:
Sustainable fat loss combined with mindset shifts helps women feel confident, empowered, and in control of their lives again. When the focus moves beyond weight to self-worth, real transformation begins.

Tracey Lost Over 2 Stone at 49 and Stopped Hiding Behind Her Clothes

Before starting Trinity, Tracey was 10 stone 4.8 and wearing size 14 clothes and felt like she was spiralling. Her clothes were tight, her energy was gone, and she didn’t want to go out—because nothing in her wardrobe felt comfortable. Despite her best efforts, the scales kept creeping up.

1. She Learned What Healthy Eating Actually Meant

Tracey thought dieting was about cutting out food and staying hungry. Through Trinity, she finally understood how to fuel her body. She learned how protein, fibre and healthy fats work together to keep you full and why ditching processed foods was the fastest way to feel better.

“I was very unknowledgeable about food and what sort of foods I should be eating. I never knew that eating protein and fiber would make you feel fuller for longer. Before Trinity I used to think dieting meant leaving certain foods out of your diet and feeling hungry most of the time! I know a lot more about nutrition now and make sure I am eating the right sort of food the majority of the time.”

Why it works:
Eating balanced meals with protein, fibre, and healthy fats keeps you fuller for longer, stabilises blood sugar, and reduces cravings. Learning to nourish rather than restrict helps you lose weight without feeling deprived.

2. She Made Time in Her Busy Life

With a child with additional needs, a part-time job, two stepchildren and a granddaughter, Tracey’s days were full. But the short workouts in Trinity made all the difference. On her busiest days, she’d train during her lunch break. No more excuses—just consistency.

“Time is always something I have struggled with, the shorter workouts have been a great help because I can always manage to fit them in. I have even done these in my half hour lunch break on really busy days.

Why it works:
Short, effective workouts fit into even the busiest schedules and still deliver results. Building consistency creates momentum and makes fitness a sustainable part of daily life.

3. She Gained Strength and Confidence

Tracey never saw herself as strong. But that changed quickly. Her posture improved, aches and pains disappeared, and she started lifting heavier weights than she ever imagined she could. Most importantly, she no longer hides in baggy clothes and now she wears what she wants to wear.

“I am now a lot healthier and fitter and feel amazing. I have lots of energy and no longer feel like a beached whale when I am trying to move. I’ve lost over 2 stone, something which I never thought possible. I joined Trinity as a last ditch attempt to make a change, never thinking it would work this well, but I am so pleased with the results and very proud of myself.”

Why it works:
Strength training improves posture, reduces aches and pains, and increases energy, especially for women over 40. As physical strength grows, so does self-confidence and body image.

4. She Invested in Herself and It Paid Off

This wasn’t just about looking better. It was about feeling better. Tracey now has more patience, more energy, and better mental health. She’s proud of what she’s achieved—and rightly so.

Why it works:
Prioritising your own health leads to better energy, mood, and resilience which benefits both you and those around you. When you feel your best, you show up as your best in every area of life.

Hayley Lost 3 Stone 6lbs at 47 and Got Her Life Back

When Hayley started Trinity, she was a size 18, 13 stone 4lb and didn’t recognise herself anymore. She avoided photos, dreaded holidays, and felt breathless on dog walks. Food had become both a comfort and a burden. She was constantly tired, stressed, and ashamed of her appearance.

1. She Broke Free from Sugar

One of Hayley’s biggest turning points was gaining control over her sugar cravings. Through coaching and re-education, she learned how to stop relying on sugar to manage her emotions or make up for lost sleep. Over time, her cravings disappeared and her stress became manageable.

“Breaking the sugar habit was hard. Consistent encouragement and re-education from Rebecca and Laura helped me to control what sugar I consume rather than it controlling me. Especially regarding replacing sleep with sugar. Work colleagues have noticed I no longer have a short fuse. I no longer believe myself to be a sugar-holic. My stress levels are well controlled.”

Why it works:
Balancing blood sugar with nourishing meals helps reduce cravings and stabilise mood and energy. Replacing sugar as a coping mechanism with better habits leads to improved emotional regulation and long-term control.

2. She Made Space for Herself in a Demanding Life

Hayley was working two jobs, managing a household with complex health needs, and ferrying her son across the region for sports. Trinity helped her see that she had to make herself a priority.

She reduced her working week, refocused on her own business, and carved out time to train.

“Always full of good intentions I would consistently take on too much and so was time poor for my workouts. I have 2 jobs and these complete for my time with being my younger son’s taxi all over the region for competitive sports and my commitments to my aging parents and in-laws.  Your weekly coaching calls helped me to learn to reprioritise and I have reduced my work load to concentrate on my own business.”

Why it works:
Prioritising your own health, especially when you have a busy life, creates the foundation for consistency, energy, and mental clarity. When you reclaim time for yourself, everything else becomes more manageable.

3. She Proved Herself Wrong

At first, Hayley wasn’t sure she was even fit enough to start. But she pushed through those early doubts and stuck with it. What once felt impossible—like sharing a photo of herself in a bikini—became a moment of pride. She finally changed how she saw herself.

“At the start of my TRINITY journey I couldn’t have imagined ever being in a position to nominate myself: I was upset with my lack of strength for day to day tasks, disgusted by my appearance and worried about my future health. The most “out of my comfort zone” thing I have ever done was to submit bikini photos to you both – men I didn’t know who I’d met online. Nearly 2 years down the line I can honestly say this decision has been life changing.”

Why it works:
Taking action despite self-doubt builds confidence and creates momentum. Challenging limiting beliefs and seeing results helps shift your identity from “I can’t” to “I can.”

4. She Rebuilt Both Her Body and Her Confidence

Now 10 stone, Hayley has dropped three dress sizes and wears shorts and bikinis with pride. Her BMI is in a healthy range. Her colleagues have noticed a difference—not just in how she looks, but in how she carries herself. She’s stronger, more positive, and more in control of her life.

“ I have finally changed my job to concentrate on my own business. I am happier and I am a nicer person to be around. I have my life back—and I’m happy.”

Why it works:
Losing weight, gaining strength, and feeling in control again creates a powerful shift in how you see yourself. When your outside starts reflecting how you feel inside, confidence naturally follows.
