If you’re a woman in your 40s or 50s struggling to lose weight with a bad back or facing challenges like depression, hormonal changes, or injury, Rachel’s story may resonate with you. Her journey with Trinity Transformation in 2024 is a powerful example of what’s possible when you commit to taking care of yourself, no matter the obstacles in your way.
Rachel, 52, from the UK, had always been a self-sufficient, driven woman. But like many women in their 40s and 50s, she found herself at a crossroads. The weight crept on despite her best efforts, her clothes no longer fit, and worst of all, she felt like she had lost control over her health and well-being.

Losing Weight With Depression, Weight Gain, and a Bad Back
In late 2023, Rachel hit her heaviest weight ever — 14 and a half stone (92kg). She was squeezing into size 16 clothes and felt unattractive, exhausted, and overwhelmed. She was battling depression, a struggle she had faced for most of her adult life, but things worsened when a series of major life changes collided.
A stressful job, perimenopause, and her youngest daughter leaving for university triggered a severe episode of depression and anxiety.
“I battled depression for most of my adult life. And in autumn 2023, I had a major episode of depression and anxiety, which was due to a mixture of things. I turned to food to make myself feel better, devouring huge bags of chocolate. My energy levels were pretty low, and I often spent the day lying on the sofa under a blanket.”
Then, in March 2024, she suffered a debilitating back injury — compromised discs and a torn disc — which left her in severe pain. Things went from bad to worse when her blood pressure soared to dangerous levels.
Rachel felt trapped in her body and her circumstances. She knew she needed a change but didn’t know where to start. With her bad back and low energy, traditional weight loss methods seemed impossible.
Why Coaching Can Be The Key To Weight Loss
In April 2024, Rachel made a life-changing decision: she joined Trinity Transformation. Despite her bad back and ongoing depression, she was determined to turn things around.
What made the difference for Rachel was Trinity’s approach to fitness, particularly the low-impact strength training (LIST) methods that adapt to each woman’s unique needs.
Rachel’s injuries didn’t stop her. She worked out in a small space at home, dealing with interruptions from builders, but she stayed consistent. She didn’t allow her back pain or lack of space to become excuses.
Instead, she committed to the program, knowing that LIST would help her build strength without aggravating her injuries.

Rachel’s Results: Losing 3 Stone and Regaining Confidence
In just nine months, Rachel achieved an amazing transformation. She lost 3 stone (42 pounds) and an incredible 40 inches. She went from a size 16 to a size 12, and in some cases, even a size 10. For the first time in years, she felt feminine, confident, and comfortable in her own skin.
She even bought a bikini for her summer holiday — something she hadn’t worn in ages. The feeling of confidence she gained from losing weight and getting fit was life-changing.
“I had fun going through my wardrobe and rediscovering beautiful clothes that I’ve not been able to fit into for several years now, but now I can. I’ve just bought size 10 jeans which fit, and the leggings I wore when I started Trinity hang off me now.”
But Rachel’s transformation wasn’t just about the number on the scale. Her blood pressure, which had been dangerously high in March 2024, dropped significantly, going from 150/120 to a healthy 116/74.
She also became physically stronger than she ever thought possible — lifting 24kg in deadlifts, swinging an 18kg kettlebell, and doing 10 full push-ups.

How Rachel Overcame Her Back Injury
Rachel’s story is especially inspiring for women in their 40s and 50s who wonder if they can lose weight with a bad back. Despite having compromised discs, a torn disc, and problems with her sacroiliac joint, she was able to follow the Trinity program and adapt it to her needs.
“I had Rhinebeck, which was extremely debilitating, and I ended up in A and E. Whilst there, they took my blood pressure and said that it was very high. I felt sad, incapacitated, fat, and unhealthy, and ashamed. I decided in April that I could not go on this way, so I signed up to Trinity. Depression caused me to have low energy and to seek comfort in chocolate and unhealthy foods.”
The focus on low-impact strength training (LIST) allowed her to build muscle and burn fat without worsening her injury.
Her consistency paid off. Instead of letting her back pain stop her from exercising, she worked around it. And the results speak for themselves. Today, Rachel is not just slimmer and fitter — she’s stronger than ever. She’s proof that you can lose weight and get fit, even with a bad back
Why Your Mindset Is Key
Rachel’s transformation didn’t happen overnight, but it happened because she refused to give up, even when things were tough. She dealt with depression, anxiety, hormonal changes, and a bad back — all things that could have easily derailed her progress.
But she stayed focused, consistent, and followed the Trinity plan, which was tailored to her needs.
“In the past, I probably would have stopped exercising completely and lay on the sofa. However, I have now lost 3 stone and 40 inches since April this year. I’ve gone from a size 16 to a size 12, and sometimes even a size 10 now.”
If you’re in a similar situation — maybe you’re struggling with a bad back, or perhaps you’ve been battling depression or feeling like nothing works anymore — Rachel’s story is proof that change is possible. You don’t have to let your injuries or challenges hold you back.
